Hey! Thanks for joining me on this ride. Welcome to a little bit about me.
My name is Kim and I am married with two kids. I’ve lived in Minnesota all of my life, so when I reference soda as “pop”, throw out an “uffda” in conversation, and show preseason optimism for my Minnesota Vikings (only to drown myself in tears every December or January) you will understand why. I grew up in a big blended family of parents, step-parents, siblings, half-siblings, and step-siblings.
In my free time (who am I kidding—free time with two young kids—pffft) I like to play volleyball, lazily binge Netflix shows, color in adult coloring books filled with swear words, drink overpriced coffee and wine, attempt to golf, and simply hang out with people I like spending time with. I love board games and lawn games and grilling out. I love the fall, I can handle the lengthy Minnesota winters, I sneeze my way through spring (freaking lilacs are the devil), and I have a love-hate relationship with summer. Lakes—yay, constant sweating and burning my skin on car seats—boo. Every time one of my kids smile, I smile. They are two super cool little humans.
Let’s move onto education. Back in the day, I earned a BS in Mass Communications-Public Relations. And by back-in-the-day I mean 2001. In case you don’t know, information was communicated just slightly differently back then. And by slightly I mean totally. This internet thing you’re on right now….that wasn’t much of a thing yet.
A handful of years later I decided to go back to school and I earned a BA in Psychology with a Criminal Justice concentration. Then it was on to a Masters of Arts in Forensic Psychology with a Treatment concentration. You don’t even want to know how many papers I had to write during this time.
So, as you can see, I am not formally trained in anything that is related to food allergies. I am not an expert. I do not work in the medical field. I do not work in the food manufacturing industry. However, I do have 10+ years in my past working in the restaurant business as a bartender and server, so there’s that. Currently I am in management in for a Minnesota based non-profit.
What I do know, though, is a little bit about human behavior and how the environment we live in impacts our lives. That is why I am doing this blog. In hopes to connect with people and have a positive impact in one way or another. Food allergies suck and I hope this can make them suck just a little bit less.
